The Road Ahead - Next exit: Hope

A helpful look at how brain injuries affects

the whole family (for youth ages 11-17)
By Carol Paetkau and Jodie Millward  ~ 2006

This booklet helps teenagers understand their emotions and reactions when a sibling or parent has an acquired brain injury.  There are comments and personal stories that illustrate the pain and confusion often felt by children when a brother, sister, mother or father is hurt.  Photographs and drawings provide insights as well as coping strategies for teenagers whose family has been affected.

There are explanations of grief along with descriptions of how the brain works and the effects of an injury.  This booklet gives families a tool for providing information and emotional support to adolescent sons and daughters.
