Product Overview

This therapy guide is for adolescents and adults with neurological impairments that have affected language and communication. This includes persons with stroke, traumatic brain injury, brain tumors, and other brain diseases. Although it was specifically designed for the speech and language pathologist to use in a structured therapeutic program, this workbook can be used by other paraprofessionals, caregivers, therapists and family members who are involved in the person’s care. There is a wide selection of stimulus materials that can be used to facilitate maximum possible retrieval of speech and language functioning. Large print is used since many people with neurological impairments have changes in vision.

The five major sections include exercises for:

  • listening comprehension
  • reading comprehension
  • speech and language
  • writing and
  • number skills

The sections are designed to progress from simple to more complex tasks. They are also color coded for easy selection of worksheets by modality. Speech production activities are included that are specially designed for individuals with swallowing problems, dysarthria and apraxia. There is also a selection for the non-verbal patient, including practice with gestures and a word communication notebook.

This therapy guide provides a comprehensive but portable selection of therapy materials that can be used in a variety of settings, including hospitals, rehabilitation programs, out-patient clinics, schools, home health care agencies, and family care. Treatment by clinicians was found to be much more effective when carryover activities were regularly provided between sessions. This workbook provides a wide range of activities for this purpose.
